This is where we decide what the Science Guild is fundamentally all about.

The guild members Policies and Responsibilities will be laid out here.

Science Guild constitution:

     Article I:

      A. NO NINJAS
     Article II:
      A. Be excellent to one another.

1. What sort of people are Science Guild members?

The name says it all. The Science Guild is a home for...

--Scientists (of any kind) who inhabit online game worlds, including World of Warcraft, EVE, Everquest, etc.

--Academics (of any kind) who do research in and on these game worlds

--And all people who are players in these worlds and want to hang out with scientists, talk about scientific ideas, etc.

2. What is the purpose of the Science Guild?

--A virtual lounge where scientists and science-loving people from all over the world can hang out, talk about science (broadly defined), and slay monsters at the same time

--A networking venue for scientists to get to know each other in a (rather unique) context

--A platform for organizing scientific conferences / meetings within virtual worlds like World of Warcraft

--And ultimately, if enough active researchers join and use it, a virtual scientific organization for the study of online game worlds (i.e. the psychology, sociology, economics, etc. of MMOGs)

3. What is the Science Guild not for?

--Profit, i.e. it's not the place to promote any commercial ventures

--Boring behavior, ...

4. What is the leadership structure of the Science Guild?

Application to Science Guild is easy and fun. Create a horde toon on Earthen Ring (US). Make yourself a wiki bio with content of your choosing. You may want to include an image of your toon, toon name, what attracted you to this guild, and your WoW/virtual world history. You are encouraged to tell us about your real world self and affiliations, too, but it isn't necessary for an invite. [We strongly discourage minors from disclosing any real life information.]

Next, peruse the Guild Officers pages and the Guild Master's page. Select one you find to be interesting and send that toon an in-game mail introducing yourself and asking for the guild invite.

  • Assistant:

Candidate members come in as Assistants. The Assistant is checking out the guild and seeing if it is a good fit. During this time, the guild is under the candidates review.

  • Post-doc:

If the Assistant decides they like Science, the inviting officer promotes them to Post-doc.

  • Researcher:

This is a full member of the guild. To become a Researcher, the Post-doc must have a real world identity on his/her wiki page. There can be exceptions made but they are granted on a case-by-case basis. If you feel you need an exception, please discuss this with your sponsoring officer.

  • Officer

Any Researcher can run for Officer during guild elections. Rules, qualifying number of votes, and other terms are set forth before the elections begin.

  • Council

Currently there are no Council members. This designation has yet to be fully defined.

  • Guild Master

Currently our Guild Mistress is Gonzorina.

Special roles will be defined by those who propose them and have the interest and time to undertake them.
