Election results
The people have chosen!
Corrupt Council election results:
ZippyD - 5 votes
Crepusculi - 3 votes
Crowhorn - 1 vote
Saunter - 1 vote
The Supreme Chancellor Palpatine of the Science Guild Council is ZippyD. He has the final say in all guild matters.
He is aided by Vice Chancellor Crepusculi who has the penultimate say in all guild matters.
They are aided by Deputy Chancellors Crowhorn and Saunter. They are in charge when the Supreme Chancellor and Vice Chancellor are away. (They can be bribed.)
The era of direct (Athenian) democracy has ended. Long live representative (Machiavellian) democracy!
No more voting on policies. You want something changed? Plead your case to the Council.
Failing that, bribe them.
A golden age of efficiency is upon us, comrades. Soon there will be no strife or hard work. Robots will do everything for us, including adventuring in Azeroth.
See you in the instance! For Science!!
-Evil Overlord Gonzo
Guild in anarchy! Revolution afoot!
The guild began with good ol' direct Athenian-style democracy.
Ah, those were the good old days...
Those days are over!
No, comrades, it's not time for communism. (That's for night elf scum.)
But it is time to evolve.
The guild's new political system shall be REPRESENTATIVE DEMOCRACY. Three officers will be promoted to the rank of COUNCILOR. They will have the powers of Guildmaster for 2 month terms between re-elections.
Want the guild bank tabs changed? Want the raid policy altered? Now you know whom to bribe!
Nominate now! Each member of the guild has one vote and one vote only. The one with the most votes becomes Supreme Councilor. Those with the next number of votes become the two Vice Councilors. (That means they are the evil ones who can be bribed, sew discontent, etc. etc., and also that they stand in for the Supreme Councilor when She/He/It is away.)
Send nominations to GONZO (at) AAAS.ORG by noon on Saturday 7-February-2009. Results announced just minutes after the deadline.
Good luck campaigning!
Corruption encouraged.
-Gonzo
The guild takes on Spore!
Playing the game Spore can teach you a lot about science.
That is, according to a massive advertising push by Electronic Arts, the company selling it.
To many scientists, that claim has a distinctly post-digestive bovine smell.
Guild Master Gonzo assembled a team of scientists, including the Guild Sociologist Sciencemag.
They have judged Spore on its scientific merits.

Referendum on Guild Policy
Important General Guild Meeting - Sunday, August 17, 20088, 9pm Server Time (Eastern)
RESULTS: Three things were agreed upon at the meeting:
1. Guild bank funds are currently designated for the purchase of new bank tabs. Private loans may be negotiated between guild members, but not at present loans from the bank. When the guild begins raiding, guild policy with respect to bank funds allocation will be readdressed.
2. We welcome new members interested in the Science guild! However, we'd like you to show your interest by creating a user page for this guild wiki- we strongly encourage you to disclose your real world identity and affiliation, as the Science guild believes that transparency is important in scientific and community endeavors. You may join the guild without identity disclosure, but no member may be promoted past the second rank without such disclosure. You must, however, make a user page in order to be invited into the guild. Take a look at the user pages at the Community Portal to get an idea of what people are doing. Have fun with it!
3. Discussion of other issues will be taken to the forum. If you would like input on guild policy, please visit the forum. Guild policy will be decided there. You must be registered and logged in at the forum to access the guild discussion boards.
ELECTION of GUILD OFFICERS
"And I, for one, welcome our new insect overlords..."
From 22 - 26 June, the Science guild held elections for its first officers. Here is how the election guidelines were laid out:
"To thrive, the Science Guild needs a corps of officers to run the show. Many people spend time in the guild mostly for the interesting discussions, and that function does not require much maintenance. But for those who want to get their epic mounts, form the occasional raid, and generally use the guild as a base for play, we need an Officer corps.
The job of Officer comes with both perks (full access to the Guild vault, the power to /ginvite and /gpromote) and duties (making sure that lower-level members are looked after/helped, keeping the Guild Vault tidy, generally being available, adjudicating disputes if need be). There is a higher rank than Officer, known as Council. Members of the Council will be elected from the Officer corps once it is established and things stabilize. Formal Council elections will be in August or September latest.
Officer election process...
1) Anyone can propose an Officer candidate by putting a character's name in the list of OFFICER Candidates below.
2) Those who have a bio page (in the Guild member section below) can put their RW name next to one of the candidates to endorse them.
All Officer candidates must have a fully fleshed-out bio page with RW details etc., and their interest in the Science Guild should be made clear.
All guild members can cast only 1 vote. Just edit the list of OFFICER Candidates below, writing in your name next to the candidate that you would like to endorse. Candidates need at least 2 endorsements to become an Officer. (Note: If you have more than one character within the guild, you still can only make one endorsement... so endorse with your RW name.)
An officer candidate is allowed to vote for him or herself, or not.
Votes will be tallied at 6pm EST this Thursday, 26-June-2008. Those with a solid bio page and at least 2 endorsements join the guild's first Officer corps."
RESULTS: Congratulations to our 7 new guild officers ... Cplane, Garaka, Retief, Deaxter, Crowhorn, Saureus, Crepusculi
SPOT THE BOT!
Booty Bay, 12 noon EST, Sunday 22-June 2008
(One of the characters among us will actually be a robot... prizes for those who correctly spot the AI being)

The party will end at 2pm with a Charity Jungle Romp through Stranglethorn Vale. (Those who want to can form parties and do STV quests, while others can form a raid and deal some death in the area. Any donations of loot or gold to the Guild vault will be most appreciated!)
RESULTS: Congratulations to Deaxter for correctly spotting the bot within 60 seconds! He correctly guessed that Retief was a robot. Everything that Retief said was generated by UltraHAL, the winner of last year's Loebner prize(1). But in fact, there were 2 bots. Guild member Mynameisman was also generating dialogue via UltraHAL. But there was so much chaos from people pretending to be bots, for example from Guild anarchist Sciencemag, that no one noticed the second bot. It was great fun. -Gonzo
